JAMEEL INDEXFOR FOOD TRADE AND VULNERABILITY
Hosted by the MIT Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) for the FACT Alliance, the Jameel Index measures key aspects of global food security that are dependent on food trade and the global change threats impacting food trade.
Bridging knowledge gaps on how climate variability and change affect global food trade
The Jameel Index measures countries' dependence on food and animal feed imports, in the context of a country’s ability to pay for imports, and the reliability and robustness of food trade supply chains. The Jameel Index currently analyses historical trends in food trade vulnerability at national, regional, and global scale. Future global change scenarios are coming in 2025.
A global endeavour
The Jameel Index is developed by the FACT Alliance, a research platform of the Abdul Latif Jameel Food and Water Systems Lab (J-WAFS) at MIT, and is built by experts from global academic and research institutions specialised in agriculture, nutrition, and food systems.
